On Oct. 29, David will be speaking at Microsoft Games in Redmond from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM, and then giving the same talk again from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM.

NOTE: For those members of Microsoft Games considering coming to "Beyond Structure" in LA on Oct. 25-26 and who wonder if the material will be the same, please know that there's no overlap between David's three-hour talk at Microsoft Games, and his two-day screenwriting workshop "Beyond Structure."

The event on Oct. 29 is strictly limited to Microsoft employees and those currently working externally on games for Microsoft.

David will be speaking on a variety of topics related to creating emotion in games, such as techniques to:
  • Entice a player to identify with his or her game character
  • Create emotionally deep and rich NPCs, even if the NPC speaks just one line of dialogue in the entire game
  • Induce a player to bond with the NPCs (non-player characters) if so desired
  • Create emotion and meaning even in the nonlinear portions of a game
  • Write emotionally powerful cinematics
  • Leave a player changed and even enriched by a game
The amount of people in each session is strictly limited, due to the room's size. If you work for Microsoft and would like to attend one of the sessions, please email Matt Whiting at: mwhiting@microsoft.com
